Short answer

The best Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe case for most people is the Axon M2: N52 magnets, a hinge cover and a rotating metal ring stand. Choose the Apex M3 for slim, the Spineguard P1 for hinge and cover-screen protection, the Axon M1 for clear, or the Kinetic P1 to carry a stylus. The Ultra itself has no MagSafe or built-in magnets, so the magnets have to be in the case.

Full disclosure: we design and sell MagSafe-compatible cases for foldables, and the Axon M2, Apex M3, Spineguard P1, Axon M1 and Kinetic P1 in this guide are ours. So when a "best MagSafe cases" post comes from a case maker, the fair question is whether it's an honest guide or a shopping list with our logo on it. We've kept it honest the only way we know how: every pick is sold with a dedicated Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra option, every feature we describe is one the product page states, and we tell you who should not buy each one. For every case type, not just magnetic ones, see our best Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra cases guide. Updated 29 September 2026.

Does the Z Fold 8 Ultra have MagSafe?

No. The Z Fold 8 Ultra isn't MagSafe and has no built-in magnets. Samsung made it Qi2 Ready instead: it charges wirelessly at up to 20W, and MagSafe-style wallets, chargers and car mounts attach through a magnet ring in the case. That's why the case choice matters. A case only earns the MagSafe label if the magnets are actually in the shell; get that wrong and you've paid for a case that fights the accessories you bought it for. For the full charging explanation, including Qi2 and speeds, read does the Z Fold 8 have MagSafe? Wireless charging explained.

The good news: the Ultra is easy to shop for. Samsung launched it at Unpacked on 22 July 2026, and it folds to 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm at 215 g, identical to the Z Fold 7. So a magnetic Z Fold 7 case you already own should carry over (check the camera cut-out; our Z Fold 7 case fit guide explains how), and there's a full range of Ultra-specific options in our Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra collection. Just make sure you have the Ultra and not the plain Galaxy Z Fold 8, because the wide model takes different cases.

How we're assessing MagSafe for the Z Fold 8 Ultra

We haven't run lab tests for this guide, and we won't pretend otherwise. Three things drive every pick below. First, magnet architecture: does the product page confirm a built-in magnet ring (all five picks here list N52 magnets) and wireless charging through the case? Second, hinge coverage and fit: a magnetic back is little use if the case leaves the spine open to grit or isn't cut for the Ultra's camera. Third, what each style costs you in thickness and grip, because the Ultra is an 8.9 mm-thick phone when folded and a bulky case gives much of that away. Every design here is also sold for the Z Fold 7 and Z Fold 6 (and all but the Apex M3 for the Z Fold 5), alongside its dedicated Z Fold 8 Ultra version.

Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe cases compared

All five use a built-in N52 magnet ring. Match yourself to a row, then read the entry.

Kinetic P1 Hinge case with a stylus slot Full-length hinge cover None No

1. Axon M2: best overall Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe case

Who it's for: almost everyone. The Axon M2 pairs a built-in N52 magnet ring with a rigid wrap-around hinge cover, an aerospace-grade alloy frame and a metal ring stand, and that ring is the reason it's our default. It's two tools in one: fold it out to 180 degrees and it's a kickstand that swivels a full 360 degrees for portrait calls or landscape video; slip a finger through it and it's a grip for one-handed use on a big, heavy foldable. The magnets align the phone on MagSafe and Qi chargers and hold magnetic wallets and car mounts, and it charges wirelessly through the case with the ring folded flat.

Who it's wrong for: pocket minimalists. The metal frame and ring add bulk, so if thinness is your priority, see the Apex M3 below. It's also more case than you need if you never prop the phone up.

Good to know: six finishes (Black, Silver, Green, Blue, Gold and Red), and the same design is made in a separate mould for the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 if someone else in the house has one.

2. Apex M3: best slim MagSafe case

Who it's for: buyers who want MagSafe without the bulk. The Apex M3 is a two-piece case: separate front and back halves clip onto each side of the phone and leave the hinge free, so the Ultra folds exactly as it does bare. A built-in N52 magnetic ring snaps onto MagSafe-style chargers, wallets, car mounts and stands, and the product page states wireless charging works through the case. The soft-touch liquid silicone finish grips better than slick plastic, and raised edges stand 1.3 mm proud around the cameras and 1.1 mm around the cover screen.

Who it's wrong for: anyone who wants the hinge covered. The two-piece design deliberately leaves the spine exposed, and there's no ring or kickstand. Slim is a trade: you're buying magnets and a clean look, not maximum protection.

Good to know: six colours (Navy Blue, Black, Purple, Pink, Cream and Light Blue). This is the case to pair with a separate MagSafe-style wallet.

3. Spineguard P1: best MagSafe hinge-protection case

Who it's for: owners whose main worry is the hinge. The Spineguard P1 uses a spring-loaded spine cover that slides open and closed as you fold, shielding the hinge from dust, pocket grit and knocks in every position. It adds a built-in 9H tempered-glass protector for the cover screen and CNC-machined metal rings around each camera lens, and its N52 magnetic ring snaps onto MagSafe-compatible chargers, car mounts and wallets, then rotates 360 degrees to double as a kickstand.

Who it's wrong for: anyone who wants a metal frame (the Axon M2) or the slimmest possible shell (the Apex M3). It's a high-impact polycarbonate case, not rugged armour.

Good to know: because the cover-screen protector is built in, you don't need to buy a separate one. Six colours: Black, Gray, Blue, Burgundy, Pink and White.

4. Axon M1: best clear MagSafe case

Who it's for: anyone who chose their Ultra's colour carefully and wants to see it. The Axon M1 is a high-transparency polycarbonate shell chosen to resist yellowing, with reinforced edges, a raised metal camera bezel and a clear front frame over the cover screen. A ring on the back swivels 360 degrees as a grip and opens to 170 degrees as a kickstand, and N52 magnets work with MagSafe and Qi chargers, wallets and car mounts. It charges through the case with the ring folded flat.

Who it's wrong for: people who are rough on phones (any clear case shows fine scratches sooner than a matte finish) and anyone who wants a full hinge cover rather than edge protection around the spine.

Good to know: the shell is clear on every version; the accent colour (Silver, Gold, Pink, Blue, Purple or Black) is carried on the ring and camera bezel.

5. Kinetic P1: best MagSafe case for carrying a stylus

Who it's for: people who like jotting notes or signing documents on the inner display with a capacitive pen. First, the important bit: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra does not support the S Pen, nor do the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 7, and no case can change that. The S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro only work on the Z Fold 3, 4, 5 and 6. What the Kinetic P1 does is carry a slim capacitive stylus in a side-loading slot moulded into the hinge cover, clear of the fold, alongside a full-length hinge cover, a reinforced edge bumper and an N52 magnet ring for MagSafe-style accessories.

Who it's wrong for: people who don't use a stylus, who'd be paying for a slot they never fill, and anyone expecting S Pen features. Our S Pen holder case guide for the Ultra covers the pen options, and which Fold models support the S Pen explains the compatibility.

Good to know: the box contains the case only, so bring your own slim stylus. Three finishes: Black, Caramel and Cream.

What about rugged and wallet cases?

We don't list either as a MagSafe pick, because our Ultra versions don't have a magnet ring. The Vanguard H1 is our heavy-duty Ultra case (multi-layer polycarbonate, reinforced corners, 360-degree hinge coverage and a built-in kickstand), but its product page doesn't list a magnet ring. The Envoy C1 is a PU leather wallet folio with four card slots, an ID window and a kickstand, again without a magnet ring. If you want cards and MagSafe, the simplest route is one of the five magnetic cases above plus a MagSafe-style wallet.

Samsung Fold 8 MagSafe cases for the wide model

If you own the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 (the wide model, known before launch as the Z Fold 8 Wide), four of these designs come in a separate version made for it: the Axon M2, Apex M3, Spineguard P1 and Axon M1. The Kinetic P1 isn't made for it. The wide model folds to 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm, so an Ultra case won't fit; pick your exact phone in the model selector. The wide phone is also Qi2 Ready with no built-in magnets, so the same rule applies: the Z Fold 8 MagSafe experience comes from the case. See the Galaxy Z Fold 8 collection or our guide to Galaxy Z Fold 8 (wide) cases.

What to look for in a Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe case

Five checks separate a real MagSafe foldable case from a marketing sticker. Apply them to anything you buy, ours included.

Magnets built into the case

This is the one that catches people. A case with a built-in magnet ring latches your charger, wallet and car mount directly. The test is simple: a real MagSafe-compatible case clicks onto a MagSafe charger with a distinct snap. If the charger slides around loosely, there are no magnets in the case, so walk away. On the product page, look for the magnet ring to be listed in the specifications, not just the title.

Hinge coverage and exact fit

On a foldable this outranks everything. A magnetic back is worth little if the case leaves the hinge open to grit or doesn't sit flush on the phone. The Ultra shares the Z Fold 7's folded body, so buy a case listed for the Z Fold 8 Ultra (or a Z Fold 7 case you've checked), and confirm the camera cut-out clears every lens. Don't buy a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case by mistake: that's the wide model, and it won't fit.

Charging through the case

Magnets alone don't guarantee charging. Very thick cases can sit the phone too far from a wireless charger, and cases without magnets won't hold alignment. Check that the product page says wireless charging works through the case. The Axon M2, Axon M1, Apex M3 and Kinetic P1 pages say exactly that, and the Spineguard P1's magnetic ring is designed for charger alignment.

Thickness versus the Ultra's profile

At 8.9 mm folded, the Ultra's slim body is part of its appeal. Ring, kickstand and frame styles add bulk. That's worth it for the function, but know the trade. If thin is the priority, a two-piece slim case such as the Apex M3 adds the least.

Grip and one-handed use

The cover screen invites one-handed use, and one-handed use of an expensive foldable over concrete is how phones get dropped. A ring grip (Axon M2, Axon M1) or a grippy soft-touch finish (Apex M3) is cheap insurance. Purely slick cases look great and slip easily.

Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe FAQ

Is the Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe compatible?

Not by itself. The Z Fold 8 Ultra has no built-in magnets, so it isn't MagSafe compatible out of the box. It is Qi2 Ready, and with a MagSafe-compatible case such as the Axon M2, Apex M3, Spineguard P1, Axon M1 or Kinetic P1 it works with magnetic chargers, wallets and car mounts, charging at up to 20W.

Do MagSafe cases actually work on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold?

Yes, if the case has magnets built in. MagSafe is Apple's magnetic standard, and a case with a built-in magnet ring, such as our Axon M2, Axon M1, Spineguard P1, Apex M3 or Kinetic P1 on the Z Fold 8 Ultra, lets MagSafe-style chargers, wallets and car mounts attach. A case without built-in magnets can't do this, whatever the listing claims.

Does a MagSafe case block wireless charging on the Z Fold 8 Ultra?

A well-designed one shouldn't. The product pages for our Axon M2, Axon M1, Apex M3 and Kinetic P1 state that wireless charging works through the case, and the Spineguard P1's magnetic ring is designed to align the phone on the charger. Very thick cases and cases with no magnets are the ones to be wary of.

Can I use a MagSafe wallet and a stand at the same time?

Usually one at a time. On ring-stand cases such as the Axon M2 and Axon M1, the ring sits on the back of the case where a magnetic wallet would attach, so you swap between them. If you carry cards all day and want a stand too, the Envoy C1 wallet folio (card slots and a kickstand, but no magnet ring) may suit you better.

What's the difference between MagSafe and Qi2?

MagSafe is Apple's trademarked magnetic charging and accessory system; Qi2 is the Wireless Power Consortium's open standard built on similar magnetic alignment. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is Qi2 Ready, meaning it supports Qi2 charging but has no magnets of its own. Either way, magnetic accessories attach through a case with a built-in magnet ring.

Do these MagSafe cases fit the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8?

Four of them come in a separate version for it: the Axon M2, Apex M3, Spineguard P1 and Axon M1. The Kinetic P1 is not made for the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. The two phones have different folded sizes, so choose the exact model in the selector; an Ultra case will not fit the wide model.

Does the Vanguard H1 work with MagSafe accessories?

We don't recommend it for MagSafe. The Vanguard H1's product page doesn't list a built-in magnet ring. If you want strong protection and magnets, the Axon M2, with its alloy frame and hinge cover, or the Spineguard P1 are the closest options.

Is there a MagSafe case that holds the S Pen for the Z Fold 8 Ultra?

No case can add S Pen support, because the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra doesn't support the S Pen. The S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro only work on the Z Fold 3, 4, 5 and 6. The Kinetic P1 combines N52 magnets with a slot that holds a slim capacitive stylus.

Our verdict

For most Z Fold 8 Ultra buyers, the Axon M2 is the MagSafe case to start with: built-in magnets, a hinge cover, an alloy frame and a ring that handles both hands-free viewing and one-handed grip. Go Apex M3 if slim matters most, Spineguard P1 if the hinge and cover screen are your priority, Axon M1 if you want to see the phone, and Kinetic P1 if you carry a capacitive stylus. And if you're coming from a Z Fold 7 with a magnetic case you like, try it on the Ultra first, because the folded body is the same.
